On May 4th 2018 with the support of the EU and UNDP the GAA held its general meeting of the members. Representative of the UNDP – Ms. Rusudan Tushuri made welcoming remarks and presented the scope of the project supporting the GAA.
The first part of the meeting was dedicated to operation of the standards of ethics for arbitrators in practice. The members discussed ethical challenges and exchanged views on existing problematic issues. Thereafter,the Chairperson of the Governing Board, Ms. Sophie Tkemaladze, introduced amendments to the Charter proposed by the Governing Board. The members discussed and with supermajority approved the amendments, according to which the quorum of the General Meeting has been fixed at 25% (instead of 50%) and the annual membership fee has become 100 GEL (instead of 50 GEL). These amendments aim to support sustainability and flexibility of the activities of the GAA.
In the last part of the meeting 8 candidates for membership of the Disciplinary Committee were proposed. By secret ballot the members elected following 6 members of the disciplinary committee: Levan Nanobashvili, Lina Jikia, Nino Bakakuri, George Jugeli, Zviad Kordzadze and Maka Nachkebia. Election of the members of the committee is an important and final stepto put into operation the Association’s Code of Ethics and Disciplinary Rules.
EU and UNDP supported regional meeting of the GAA executive board was held from 24th to 26th of November in Borjomi. The board drafted ''the charter on the arbitrator's disciplinary responsibility and disciplinary procedures'' which will be adopted at the general meeting. The board discussed the activities of 2017 and planned the projects for 2018.
